Putuo Mountain
Putuo Mountain, with Mount Wutai, Mount Emei and Mount Jiuhua is known as the Four Holy Buddhist Mountains of China. It is a Buddhist sanctuary where Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara has developed the compassion in the human heart.
Putuo Mountain is a small island among the 1390 islands of Zhoushan Islands. Its shape is just like a dragon lying on the sea, and covers an area of about 13 square kilometers. Putuo Mountain, facing Shenjiamen of Zhoushan Islands across the sea, has the reputation of “Buddhist Kingdom of the sea” and “Holy Land of South China Sea”. It is one of the first group of national key scenic spots.
Dongji Island
Dongji Island is known as “the Potala Palace on the sea” and “the East Pole of China”, where the sun rises first every day. This small island far from the city will allow you to fully appreciate the true beauty of the East China Sea, and you can even feel the sea waves on the boat.
Miaozihu Island is the main island of Dongji Island, and the only one where you can arrive directly by boat. There are grotesque stones on the island where you can do sea viewing, fishing and so forth. The fishermen’s painting of Miaozihu Island is famous for its clear composition, and rich sea atmosphere and fishy flavor. The verdant hills and blue sea have attracted a large number of intellectuals, writers and painters to come here to do the artistic creation.
Huaniao Island
Among the numerous islands of Shengsi Archipelago, Huaniao Island is one that self-help tourists like to go the most. Just as its name (which means flowers blossoming and birds flying) suggests, the island is full of aesthetic sense.
The shape of the island is like seagulls’ extended wings as in flying. There are blossoming flowers, abundantly flourishing grass and dreamlike mist and clouds, all of which make it a wonderland. On the island there are many unique nature landscapes, and it is said that the cloud hole is as deep as the bottom of the sea. Greeting the sunrise in the east, tasting the delicious seafood in the morning; bidding farewell to the sunset in the west, listening to the sound of waves at night, the island is definitely a good place for leisure, keeping healthy and freeing your mind and soul.
Zhujiajian Island
Zhujiajian, known as “The hometown of Sand Sculpture” and “Holiday Paradise”, is located in the East China Sea coast. Sea water quality here meets the first class standard. It is the real natural “oxygen bar”, where the air quality is the highest standard. Especially the beach of Tungsha, Nansha, Qiansha, Lisha, and Qingsha, all of which are orderly arranged along the southeastern coast of the island which stretches nearly 5 kilometers. It is like a golden necklace setting between the green mountains and the blue sea with a good name of “Boundless golden sands”.
Here is another place named Heishitang fishing village, which is worth visiting. There are stretches of black pebble beach. Those pebbles, which make “click” sound when people step upon them, have become glossy and smooth black cobbles as the original edges were gradually polished after years of waves and tidal erosion. These cobbles were washed onto the beach by waves, and piled up to become a splendid black pebble beach. It is said that at each crescent moon night, the sound of waves and the friction sound between pebbles produce the mutual echo, which can be considered as a unique and marvelous scene.
White Sand Island
It is a fishing village, of which the northwest faces the “Buddhist Kingdom of the sea” - Putuo Mountain across the sea. There are blue sea, pebble gravel beach, and blue sky with white clouds. The surrounding islands are rich in seafood. There are over 30 species of shellfish and aquatic plants like seaweed and citron, over 20 shrimp and crab varieties like swimming crab, prawn, penaeid and so forth, and 100 kinds of commercial fishes like grouper, rockfish, yellow croaker fish, sea bass, hairtail etc.
White Sand Island sea fishing base is located within the White Sands area, of which the main area includes White Sand Island, another 25 unnamed surrounding islands and their sea areas. Among these, the main part is White Sand Island and the Inboard and Outboard Yang’an island which are respectively seven kilometers and 13 kilometers far away from the White Sand Island, as well as their surrounding sea areas.
Xiushan Island
Xiushan Island is one of the three “Immortal Mountain Offshore”. It enjoys a good reputation as “Shangri-La of the sea”. There is a series of beach group along the eastern coast of the island – Jiuzi, Sanjiao, Mouhu, Houshayang and so on. The beach is fine and flat, and the sea is blue and clear. The island is full of peculiar peaks and grotesque stones as well as verdant and lush trees. The island hasn’t been fully developed yet, so it can keep its aboriginal ecological state. There aren’t many tourists here and it is less uproarious. Having quiet and beautiful beaches and delicious seafood, the island is quite suitable for a family self-driving tour.
