Introduction
Hangzhou Song Dynasty Town, adjacent to the West Lake, is the first and largest Song Dynasty culture theme park in China. The town is a beautiful place, and also a window to show the cultures of the South Song Dynasty (1127-1279 AD), when Hangzhou was the national capital. Hangzhou Song Dynasty Town is renowned for its glorious traditional culture and wonderful shows, where tourists can experience the daily life of a typical resident in ancient China.
The town reproduces the ancient flourishing scene of Hangzhou, mainly based on the picture of Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival (清明上河图) by the noted Song Dynasty artist Zhang Zeduan (张择端), which has been added to the first batch of National Cultural Industry Base Sites. There are a lot of intangible cultural heritage shows available, for example the New Year temple fair, torch festival, water-splashing festival, and sweet osmanthus festival. The town is an indispensable sightseeing spot in Hangzhou and its motto is “Give us one day we'll give you one thousand years”.
The show Romance of Song Dynasty is the highlight of Song Dynasty Town, which is regarded as one of the top three shows in the world. It is a large stereoscopic musical drama which adapts the old stories and legends, such as the Legend of the White Snake, the Butterfly Lovers. Shows and plays are performed every day. Equipped with high-tech visual and audio techniques, combining with singing, dancing and music, Romance of Song Dynasty is an absolutely stunning visual feast.
